Boundaries Expansions
a photographic performance collaboration with Marina Therechov
"The next day, my mother took me to visit my paternal grandmother. I whispered into her's ears, asking her to accompany me to the bathroom and wait for me behind the door so no one could come closer.
I sat on the toilet, had my mother protecting me behind the door, and knew no one could interrupt my action. That was the moment. With all that constraint in my body and all the force I had, I focused on using my whole body to expel that material away. A week of absorption of food, excitement, fear, and sensations was about to come out to the most unwanted and sensitive part of my body—the orifice that symbolized my shame.
The semiotic of this action represented oppression, retention, and shame. It also meant the way I dealt with the pain. The consisting substance broke off the barriers of my body. The mixture between pain and relief, in mind and the body, was one of the most remarkable representations of breaking through my body boundaries."

In the process of Body Expansions photographies, I used biographical texts that symbolize, in this project, the idea of breaking body boundaries through fluids. It touches on body sensations, traumatic psychological experiences, and physical effort. It also plays with a person's vulnerability and body strength.
